Billie Eilish’s tour Down Under took a very sweet turn this March with a personal visit to a small local lolly shop in the heart of Sydney.
With almost no free time between shows in Sydney, she leapt at the chance to visit the store between shows and make candy. In a video posted to her Instagram she can be seen rolling candy with the Sticky crew, loving the process. Billie is clearly a fan.
Through TikTok (@stickyaustralia), Billie Eilish has kept her eye on Sticky since 2022. In fact, for six months “Sticky Australia” was the only account she followed. As recently as February 2025, with her tour approaching, Billie threw out an “OMG” when Sticky made a sweet with her name in it, helping send the short video they posted to over 9 million views almost overnight.
Annabelle King, Sticky’s Social Media Manager, was shocked. “I woke up to over 6000 comments on our TikTok account. I thought we had been cancelled and panicked!” she says. “And then, I was blown away.”
The impact on the business was instant, with fans of Eilish clamouring for the same design that Billie had gushed over.
“We couldn’t make them fast enough,” says Rachel Turner, Co-owner and head of logistics. “Candy making is an art. It takes time to make something beautiful.”
“Candy-making is not easy, but making something genuinely beautiful can be very satisfying,” says master candy-maker David King.
While remaining a family-owned, artisanal business, Sticky has also become something of an Australian icon globally. In 2020 with the onset of the covid pandemic, like many businesses around Australia, Sticky was facing an uncertain future. With nothing to lose, they started live-streaming and producing short form video content on social media, initially on Facebook and Instagram, and then TikTok and YouTube. Their content exploded, gaining this “silly little lolly shop” over 13 million followers around the world and still growing.
Sticky specialises in creating traditional Rock Candy Sweets. Everything is entirely handmade, with intricate patterns and designs built right through the heart of their lollies. The process, while very physically demanding, produces stunning visuals, which fans of the shop have dubbed “mesmerising.”
Having Billie Eilish visit and work with them in person was an experience the Sticky Family won’t soon forget.
“And who knows,” say Annabelle. “If the whole International Superstar thing doesn’t work out for her, there’s always candy making. She’s a wonderful human being.”
